Getting Started

Welcome to Teachers Who Write!

This site is intended as a general resource for educators interested in pursuing their writing dreams.  Whether you just want to start a simple blog or write the next Booker Prize-winning novel, this site can help get you on your way.

These resources are only considered a starting point.  As you find resources and advice from specific sources you find helpful, you'll eventually curate your own favorites.  If you've found something useful that we don't have listed, please email anytime!

Before you dive in, it might be useful to consider what you hope to gain from the site.  Having answers to these questions may help you find just what you're looking for

  • Are you writing for yourself or others?

  • Do you want to play with words or learn storycraft?

  • Are you trying to impact the world or offer a break from it?

  • Do you hope to make money from your writing?

  • What is your level of expertise?

Now some of these could be a 'yes/and' for you and that's great!  Thinking about these for even a little while can help you narrow in on the resources that will be most helpful.

But remember, you're not a teacher here!

So quit planning and enjoy the journey through the many ways writing can help you lead a life with more spontaneity and joy than you could have imagined!
